Wanting
Sounds
Wanting Sounds is an artist’s book of text and image, in the form of a longstitch-bound softcover binding with a wrapper of lokta minéraux paper, and an open belly band with foil stamped detailing.
The pages of Wanting Sounds feature a visual poem written in lipstick prints, a visual language I derived from Bob Cobbing’s book ‘The Five Vowels’ (cover shown here, pages displayed on wall in this image).
Pressing mouth to paper, I used the resulting lipstick marks to transcribe every negative view ever expressed to me about my bisexuality.
These expressions of hostility now form a poetic catalogue of verbal-visual traces.
In this way, the visual poem in Wanting Sounds repeats its source materials without amplifying their biphobia, and in a way that transforms their meaning and significance.
